Katie, these are so great, especially since you don't have any "experience" in modeling photography. I would suggest taking your model out somewhere, perhaps when its warmer out. I think it would be fun to dress her/him up and get reactions from people in random settings. Your pictures really looks professional though. good work!
I really enjoy the third picture in the group. I think because it's just off the norm enough for it to be a captivating fashion shot. I would like to see the whole body, try to have your models create interesting shapes with their bodies or with the clothes.
I think the pictures are really great especially without doing this before, fashion photography seems to be very difficult. I think it may be interesting to see the model in some type of setting maybe the model can be interacting with something. Keep up the good work
These are beautiful shots! It seems like fashion photography would be so difficult, but you made it seem so easy. You really captured her true, simplistic beauty. When I look at your photos I think about ANTM. Really have fun with different types of photo shoots.
first thing's first: i love the title of your blog lol.
Anyway, you shot some great stuff for never having really worked on "Fashion Photography." I'd definitely agree with Jennifer and say that your third image was my favorite.
I also liked the idea that Steve had. Some sort of model interaction - be it with a prop or another model or anything - would probably result in even more good stuff. For example, giving a model a prop always seems to make them feel a little more comfortable in the studio, especially because most of these people aren't professional or even amateur models.
Anyway, i'd give props a try because even if you don't like the shot with the props, they might give you an idea that you hadn't already thought of to peruse as you're working!
First off these are absolutely gorgeous. I'm shocked this is your first experiment with this style cause you nailed it. I feel like if you keep pushing and trying different stuff you'll end up with some rad pictures. All of these are great. I want to see the colored ones. Maybe even the same picture next to each other or vertically flipped with one black and white and one colored. And if you need a model I'm down for anything. It will be fun and then I wont feel like im imposing when I ask to take your picture too with your awesome red hair! :)
Fashion photography is extremely difficult and I think that you have done very well with your first attempt. The black and white gives it a very unique feel which I enjoy. My favorite shot is the second one down with her eyes closed, it gives it an extra sense of beauty.
well, you would never guess this was your first attempt at this. your pictures look really great. keep shooting and trying new ideas to experiment with what works and what doesnt. but great job, i love the pictures!
I'm a fan of your fourth photo. I really like the angle of the negative space formed by her chin. They're very good shots in terms of technical elements like lighting and composition. And you may not think that working with models was easy, but you appear to be good at it, so don't get discouraged.
I like the photo that is a view of her back and the side of her head. The line her spine makes really draws the eye up to her face. I also agree with everyone else so far, you are doing an AMAZING job with these models. I can't wait to see more of your work!
These are beautiful. It's sometimes hard to classify fashion shoots are true art, but you have definitely done that. The angles and facial expressions really do it. Can't wait for more of your work!
I'm a senior Art History and Spanish double major, with a minor in Jewish Studies. I took my first photography class last semester (Black & White) and loved it.
My project for this semester is fashion/beauty. I want to express the beauty of the human body. I like the concept of trying to sell the clothes at the same time, but I may start to lean more toward fine art as I move on. Maybe both?

ReplyDeleteGood stuff, just watch so the skin doesn't drop off into the white background. Other than that, really really solid set.
ReplyDeletei like the framing and lighting of the third photo and the black and white conversion was pretty well done.
ReplyDeletei'm also a fan of the fourth photo with the shape of her body and hand placement.
overall i just have to say that i really dig the feel of the shots and am looking forward to your next set for sure.
